Battery Park Sunset

DSC_2453, originally uploaded by mr.patrick.

For my first post, I’d like to show a classic example of what I’ve been figuring out, shooting in the city over the past couple months. A lot of times I’ll go out looking to take a specific shot, but upon getting there and taking a couple, the shots seem boring or uninteresting. In this case, I was down in Battery Park. It was for my weekly challenge group on flickr and this week’s topic was “Sunset”. I was going to take the classic statue of liberty in front of a sunset shot along the hudson river but then noticed this interesting monument (The American Merchant Marine Memorial) along the waters edge. It seemed to make a much more interesting and dramatic photo. I waited to sunset was almost over and came out with this shot.
